11/14/03:
this was quite an inventive "show". it was basically a big party that we happened to play at. brian couldn't make it so big thanks go out to albert and jacob for stepping up and filling in. we've never played with another drummer, so it was like the twilight zone for us. it didn't work as well as i hoped, but that didn't matter to most of the people. the crowd was going crazy and jumping around and moshing, despite our slight tempo dilemmas. rock on.
10/31/03:
awesome show, in my opinion. there were probably more people watching us than ever before, or at least it seemed like it. we're forming into a more real band. we played 1 set, with all originals except for "seven nation army". 10 or 11 songs total. we just barrelled through them all with only minimal noteiceable flaws. it was very encouraging show for me in particular, and maybe we'll actually play a real gig sometime. i think we're ready.
10/23/03:
we played some songs for mole day again this year. we kinda sucked but i think we got some of the jitters and mistakes out before the dance. basically just practice with people watching, not very noteworthy.
09/26/03:
this was one of our more iffy shows. to me, it sounded like we didn't do as well as we could, but everyone else seemed to love it. so, whatever. albert hooked us up with a makeshift PA which totally rocked. brian used his old drumkit (which i love) and i only broke 2 strings. we debuted "the thin blue line" and "hate me". also, brian and i switched and we played 2 lynard skynard covers ("freebird" and "sweet home alabama"), although there was a slight mishap during "freebird" which we won't mention...all in all, good show, the crowd was pumped, but the admins made us make them stop moshing, which kind of sucked. oh well. huge fucking thanks to: albert, for setting us up a kickass PA; christina, for being gracious enough to tape the whole concert for us; and katie & daniel, for takin' some kickass pics.
06/18/03:
we won 3rd place, almost got to play in the big show. oh well. we attracted many people to our window by playing songs in brian's room, which was the most rewarding occurance in my opinion. those freebird losers from last year followed us to our combination category. so, after seeing their gay fake-mouth-playing guitar solo, we modified "the underground" and added a behind-the-head guitar solo. it apparently worked at least a little, cause we got 3rd. fun stuff.
06/02/03:
it was a pretty good set. we hadn't practiced in probably 2 or 3 months, so we practiced sunday and played monday. we played very well considering that, and even made it through most of "smells like teen spirit", which is an accomplishment for us. it was pretty relaxed and we were all just having a good time.
11/15/02:
what to say, what to say. we played better than ever before i think, and twice as destructive. we screwed up "wipeout" and "smoke on the water", but totally nailed everything else. there were a lot more people than i had expected to be there. many were jumping around and dancing and moshing and it was just damn good fun. we manged to: break 2 pairs of drumsticks, blow out a borrowed pa, and i got part of a fingernail ripped off. but it was all worth it, i think we did really well and (at least i) was definitely feeling the music more than ever. we need more shows like that! (ps - we're never playing a school dance again!! refer to 3/22/02...)
10/23/02:
4 songs (i think) for a medium sized crowd. why, you ask? for mole day, a chemistry related holiday. debuted "the mole song". also debuted kinki's and brooce's first film making attempt: "attack of the moles". very successful except for a crappy guitar.
08/06/02:
we played 3 times throughout the show, and all the kids seemed to really be getting into near the end. we played el scorcho, killer birds, and purple haze. purple haze turned out reallly well, maybe our best version yet. it might retain its spot at the end of our sets. who knows, we'll see. i don't know if any pics were taken, but we'll put 'em up if we get any.
06/19/02:
we tried our best, but we got beaten by a semi-impressive "freebird" rendition, a tight-as-shit mozart piece, and a kickass violin tune (among other things). the child prodigy mozart kid should have won first, but he won second instead. just goes to show you that anything's possible with enough pedals and effects...
06/01/02:
we had lots of fun at this one. we brought 4 cars full of fans with us up to dale city. when we got there, they gave us our own room BACKSTAGE. how cool is that?! we waited anxiously to play, and we were the second band. so we went out and listened to the first band, trying to evaluate the quality of our competition. they weren't awesome, they were ok. so, it was our turn next, and we lugged our guitars and such out there and waiting while the sound crew tried to get the sound right. we played on the actual ice (on some taped down carpets), so it was a bit cold. after 20 minutes maybe, they let us start. we just rocked. we ripped through our set, which included old favorites, plus the inclusion of op ivy's "bombshell" and our own "the underground". we nailed most of them, despite majorly crappy sound quality and a perpetually squirrely monitor. we ended on "wipeout", and people seemed to have liked it a lot. we stuck around for awhile to listen to some of the other bands. we left. they called today and told us that we got third, and that the band "hilikus" won. go figure. it was awesome.
04/20/02:
we rocked, and we won blue ribbons. plus we got to practice some in the madison auditorium. we were then invited personally by the 4-h vice president to go to states. great time had by all!
04/13/02:
not many people showed up. we had a consistent audience of about 3 people. plus, we kept messing songs up. not a very good gig. ben price, matt ralston, and ryan ralston rocked though! they were pretty cool. mostly, though, it was a slow, uneventful day.
03/22/02:
ok...this one rocked! it was the first time that we actually got to play lots of songs live. we played about 12, i think, off and on for 3 hours. there was about 15 people there who were right up in front of us the whole time, kicking ass, taking names, and rocking out! they were awesome. it took awhile to finally get set up because they relocated us and lied to us about the pa. other than that, the only technical difficulty was when brian busted a hole through his bass drum during the "sunshine of your love" jam. we borrowed a head and all was forgiven :)
03/17/02:
we got to play 2 songs, "respect" and "wipeout". we won 1st with both of them! that means we're going to state competition, but we're not clear on all of the rules yet. we might have to choose one or the other, or neither...
